<< Andy is one "hell of a" pianist! Technical skill is one thing evident with Andy; but that´s not
"IT"! To be a high-caliber jazz pianist you got to have a special touch, a special concept in
harmony and melody, and a special concept of respecting those playing with you >>.
Such describes George Gruntz - former program manager of the Berlin Jazz Festival - the pianist.
Andy Herrmann was born in 1965 in Äpfingen/Germany. Already during his piano studies at the
"Swiss Jazz School" in Bern he played in the quartet of the legendary American saxophone
player Robin Kenyatta. Then he played regularly with jazz stars like Benny Golson (ts), Jiggs
Whigham (tb), Jimmy Woode (b), Dave Liebman (ss), Reggie Johnson (b) and many others.
He studied composition at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. Then Andy Herrmann concentrated
on the trio and found an ideal trio team with Henning Sieverts on bass and Matthias Daneck
Henning Sieverts is one of the most demanded bassists of the German jazz scene. 1990 he
received the Musikförderpeis of the Bavarian capital Munich, 1991 he won the jazz contest
of the "International Society Of Bassists". He produced more than 50 CDs, four under his own name. From
2004 on he is producing and presenting regular jazz programmes at the Baye-rische Rundfunk. Matthias Daneck (drums) became well-known with
own projects as "Now" or "Instant Loop Generation". Daneck´s variety of rhythm and sounds is unequalled.
"Especially fascinating for me on this trio-CD is, that it shows a sovereign creative concept,
where ideas are celebrated and musically realized methodically and without a hurry. Three
musicians make a varied, vivid music without egoistic thoughts - always playing intensively
but with open spaces, which invite the listener to enter. Easily and playfully the trio touches
now the European jazz interpretation, then the traditional or modern American piano trio
music. That doesn´t mean imitation but assimilation, important for the individual sound, the individual expression. Fantastic solos, matching perfectly and pursuing the actual themes consequently. Briefly: The trio makes a fine music." (Quotation from Prof. Martin Schrack).
Many musicians asked by Andy Herrmann for a statement to the recorded CD praise the playing together, the solos, the creativity and the team feeling of the trio, together with the eleven Herrmann compositions on the CD "Circle". Trumpet player Randy Brecker says: "A wonderful CD of trio works which is full of amazing playing and compositions. The interaction between Andy and Henning Sieverts on bass and Matthias Daneck on drums is simply first rate and personifies the best of what Jazz Improvisations is all about." The Dutch trumpet player Ack van Rooyen considers the Andy Herrmann Trio "A remarkable trio with 11 new compositions played without the help of electronics. The solos and interaction of Andy, Henning and Matthias are excellent. Hopefully this pro-duction will find a widespread audience." The Australian guitar player Peter O´Mara, who is part of the Germann jazz scene for years: "Andy´s compositions are superb and his improvisational skills are formidable. The trio plays well together and create a nice variety of moods and textures." Another positive statement comes of another gui-tar player - Philip Catherine: "Andy´s music is inspiring, nice and captivating. All different compositions are well arranged to suit this excellent piano trio." Three German pianists also see the music of their collegue Andy Herrmann absolutely positive. In addition to the above quoted Martin Schrack Klaus Ignatzeck wrote: "Andy Herrmann is a sound aesthete at the piano. On this CD he convinces with finely nuanced, richly facetted piano play." And last but not least Reiner Tempel: "Andy Herrmann shows himself with his first rate trio as creative com-poser and mature pianist. You could analyse your impression like this: carefully formed arrangements, finely chased improvisations, homogenous band sound, open spaces and interaction."
In brief words: Randy Brecker - "Highly recommended, Adam Nussbaum - "I´m really enjoying it",
Ack van Rooyen - "My sincere compliments", Peter O´Mara - "I can highly recommend this music",
Klaus Ignatzeck - Music that will enjoy each jazz piano trio fan", Rainer Tempel - "Simply good music".
