ACHIM KAUFMANN, INGMAR HELLER and JOCHEN RÜCKERT play sensitive, intuitive trio music ithdrawing from common categories. The trio`s first CD recorded in July 1997 shows a remarkably wide stylistic range. There are very smooth, atmospheric pieces as well as furious improvisations on complex rhythmic cycles. Songlike narrative pieces are contrasted by abbreviated, abstract themes changing to free improvisation, leading finally to a full earthy groove.
The trio`s live concerts are events, fully-laden with musical communication. The three musicians spontaneously change the tempo, unexpectedly remain on high-voltage vamps to create thereupon new sounds spaces full  of brightness, full of dark mysteries.

Achim Kaufmann - piano - (1962) played among others witht Tomasz Stanko, Franco Ambrosetti, Wolfgang Engstfeld, Ack van Royen, Michael Moore, Bob Brookmeyer, Charles McPherson, Steve Arguelles, Christof Lauer, Matthias Schubert, Frank Gratkowski. CDs with Paul Heller "Kaleidoscope", Peter Bolte "Evocation", Wolfgang Engstfeld "Upside Down", Manfred Bründl "Aisha". Leader of the quartet "Double Exposure" (mit Michael Moore, John Schröder, John Hollenbeck). Projects of improvised/ electronic music. Live poetry. Solo concerts. Living in Amsterdam.

"With astounding virtuosity he painted a veiled tonal picture puzzle interspersed with harmonic and rhyrhmic flashes from Claude Debussy, Keith Jarrett, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Chick Corea. Again and agein he walked a tightrope between fixed metrum and lightly delayed play."

(Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)
